Building A Hero Worthy Home Gym

Almost instantaneously the room erupted. The walls had seemingly given loose, making it seem as if the whole world was spinning. But after a brief moment I realized what was going on.

Bats.

Screaming. Flying. And nearly frightened as I was.

Amidst that horror I felt something transcendent burning deep inside of myself.
A calling.

In that singular moment, it became clear who I was.
Or rather… who I would become.

Okay. Maybe that story was not my own…That may or may not have been the story of Batman and the Bat-Cave.

Becoming the Batman

Almost 98% of my podcast guests answer my question of “what superhero would you be” by answering that they would be Batman.  It makes sense to be honest, a rich guy with cool toys who stands for justice and tries to right the wrongs of the city he loves.  Batman makes more sense then some dude who can only can be defeated by some rock that doesn’t exist naturally on Earth (suck it Superman).

Rainy Rest Day Activities

Active rest days can be a great way to counteract your desire to train but also keep you from vegging out on the couch.  You can go for a jog, play some basketball, play disc golf (or regular golf), yoga, take a hike and explore nature in your hometown, or do some sort of mobility work or corrective exercise routines.

Being outside is great, but sometimes mother nature decides to be a dick and throw a wrench in your plans with rain.

Do You Even Sith?

Kevin Spacey and the 1% Rule

If you read my previous post, you know that I once aspired to become the next Hollywood star.  If you asked me to name one actor whom my generation of men revered more than any other, it would be Kevin Spacey.  Mr. Spacey owned every character whose shoes he stepped in.  His performances, still to this day, grab you by your balls and demand unfaltering attention.

His career has been full of awards and accolades not to mention inspiring many of the men I knew in college to pursue a career in acting.  This year he won his first Golden Globe for his portrayal of Frank Underwood in the Netflix series House of Cards.  At his acceptance speech, Kevin said something that took me by surprise. And no, it is not his use of the “F” word.

I Train for a Purpose

Why do I grind in the gym with the same routine week after week? Why do I have a goal of pull a 400 pound deadlift or fighting the urge to get my squat up to 300 pounds? Why in the world would I want to do this week in and week out? The answer to why I train has changed over the last few months. Maybe not so much changed, as sort of finally realized why I do what I do. This is what I have come to realize.
